Still here... Still Pregnant

Okay... so my mom told me I needed to shut this down since I haven't posted anything... Well, here's a post!

Guess who's still pregnant??? That's right, me!! Now, officially one day overdue. My doctor's appointment yesterday revealed that likely it will be a little while before this baby decides to make it's appearance. If on Monday, he/she still thinks I am a great host, the doctor said we will discuss what day next week to have the baby (i.e. the dreaded induction). Either way, I will hopefully make it home from the hospital for some turkey dinner on Sunday.

Today is my third day of being off work and I'm obviously so busy!! I have been working on some Christmas gifts this morning and plan to have lunch with Cora-Lee before heading over to mom's to help her with some pre-Thanksgiving tasks that need to be done. She's trying to keep me busy, thankfully.

Other than that, nothing is new. No baby in the outside world yet.

Keeping a secret...

I haven't posted anything since January, mainly for one big reason: I'm pregnant! I've been a: too exhausted, b: too busy vomiting (well, it's only every few days normally) and c: trying to keep it a secret.

Yesterday Darren and I went for the first ultrasound to confirm the due date (which I will actually do on Monday at Dr. Seward's). I was unbelievably nervous, excited and in pain from all of the water in my bladder. (I didn't need to drink the 32 oz they suggested, I probably would have been fine with 12 oz) When we arrived, the tech had Darren sit outside and took me in... After a quick look she said, "well, there's only one! But you are too full, you need to go pee!" After I peed, I was still "too full" so I had to go again. She was really nice and cheerful and commented on how much the baby was moving around (and I breathed a huge sigh of relief). She spent about 15 minutes doing the measurements and such and capturing a few pictures along the way.

After this, she let Darren in and angled the screen so we could look. The baby wasn't moving at this point and she was disappointed, so she basically shook my belly until the baby started dancing about :) It was cute, I must say, to see our little one moving about. The moving let us see that there are two arms and two legs, and he/she rolled about a bit until comfortable again. The tech printed off a few pictures for us as well, though they are on more of a film, than on paper, so they are harder to scan. I will post them below.

All in all, it was an amazing experience. We even got to hear the heartbeat while watching it! We hadn't heard it yet, so of course, I got a little teary eyed. Darren seemed to be like a kid on Christmas :) Very excited of course! We likely will get another chance to see the little one around 18-20 weeks and I'm looking forward to it! As of now, the due date is September 25, though I thought I'd at least try to wait a day, so our little one can share it's birthday with it's Uncle Dave :)

Thanks to everyon who has sent us emails to congratulate us! We are thrilled and are so happy to have so much support!

Maggie & Justin's Wedding

Cutting the Cake (the right way)

On December 30th, 2006, Darren and I were invited to go to the wedding of two of our friends (& they are both my co-workers as well!). They were married at St. Joseph's Church in Belleville at three o'clock in the afternoon. Maggie involved all of her sisters either as bridesmaids or in the case of her sister Emily, as a reader. Maggie looked absolutely gorgeous in her ivory dress and Justin looked dashing, especially in his raspberry vest under his tux. The bridesmaids all wore raspberry dresses, each with a hint of chocolate colour. The groomsmen wore chocolate coloured vests and ties.

The bride and groom made it through their vows with style and grace (and only a few tears). It was a beautiful ceremony presided over by Deacon Bob.

After the ceremony, Darren, Meaghan and I went down the bay for a quick walk, and stumbled on a few ducks and a beautiful sunset.

Christmas Has Come And Gone...

I always feel a little sad when it's time to take the Christmas tree down and put the decorations away. Darren and I did this yesterday, a nice (??) way to spend New Years Day...

Christmas was great this year, full of time with family, just the way I like it. On the 23rd, we had the annual King fondue at Grandma and Grandpa's place. For the past few years, someone has had the job of creating a game to play after dinner. This year, Uncle Steve and Aunt Sharon tackled the feet with great success! The game involved creating movie titles for very interesting plot lines... Some of the favourite titles were "Deck the Halls with Father O'Malley", "Pimpin' Menorahs" and a nice subtitle of "Season's Beatings". A very creative (& quirky) family we are. This was also when we had our short visit with Meghan (Dave's girlfriend). It was quite nice, though we will miss her when she leaves for Bolivia (for a year!) next week... Have a great time!

On the 24th, after singing at mass, I rushed over to G & G's again, to have "pick around" with everyone. It's a great meal, and an excellent time to have a little of everything from Smoked Oysters to Pickled Herring to Spanikopita. Yes... wordly we are! There is also some tame food like ham, and rolls and cheeses and such. This year was especially enjoyable because my second youngest cousin Emma is at prime Christmas age... We read "The Night Before Christmas" together after she hung up everyone's stockings by the fireplace.

When we went back to Mom & Gene's, Darren got Guitar Hero all set up on the Playstation. I guess he and my

brothers (& other groomsmen) played it the night before our wedding, and Dave and Brad were anxious to play again. Here are a few pictures of the results:

When we got up in the morning, Santa had visited and there were stuffed stockings and many presents under the tree! Darren and I gave Michael stuffed Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore and this was his first gift to unwrap. He received them with great delight and an exclamation of what I gather was "POOOOOH!!!!!!".

Darren was equally excited when he got Guitar Hero II, though I must say, I was more anxious to be able to play it with him! So of course, following some DELICIOUS cinnamon buns (my mom is awesome!), we got out BOTH guitars and there was a great deal of rockin' out.

Later, mom hosted dinner for sixteen in her basement. Needless to say, I gained back a minor amount of the weight I have lost recently, but the food was fabulous! We were very greatful to have our families there, including Darren's parents. After dinner, I enjoyed some time with my youngest cousins on the floor!

Long overdue update

Well, I noticed today that my big brother Dave had linked this sad blog to his actually informative and more frequently updated blog (see www.smithdm3.com). So, I figured, I had better put in an update...

Christmas is just around the corner and there are only three days left until I am off for two weeks... I was at a department head meeting tonight after school and realized how in need of a break we as teachers are... I know we get enough time off, and I'm certainly not saying that we don't all deserve a break now. However, for those of you who have children, or for those of you who remember being a child, imagine having thirty of them in a room, so close to Christmas... They are wound like tops (or dreidels?? though I teach at a Catholic school, and dreidels are more spun than wound), and the smallest things set them off on tangents, usually Christmas related. I was lucky today to get 45 minutes of productivity out of my grade 12 university bound chemistry students... Of course, I had them for 72 minutes!! So, for the other 27 minutes, it was a challenge...

I have tests planned in all three classes in the next two days... I'm not sure, but in the past, this seems to keep them focused. Then, on Friday, we have an assembly in the afternoon, so my teacher friend, Meaghan, and I, have planned "Demo Day." We had this last year, and it was a great success! We save a bunch of really fun, blow things up, demonstrations and perform them for our classes this day. We have a few new ones up our sleeves this year, including something with Lycopodium powder, to honour my big brother and his old chemistry teacher Doc Jacobs. Never had the man, but I hear he is an awesome teacher!

Just to top off the pre-Christmas exhaustion, the dreaded cold that has been lurking around the halls of school has finally caught up to me. Just when I thought I might get away with not catching it... Arrgghhh..........

Over the weekend, Darren and I started our Christmas festivities, including both our staff parties and "Christmas with the Curries." Although Christmas with Darren's family is a little more laid back and low-key, it was very nice, nonetheless. Because Darren's staff party was in Kendall, we headed to Orono early Saturday to spend a bit of time with Liz and Gord. We spent a few hours there, and then headed to Vitalaire it up. We slept on the magical BYObed we purchased with many gift cards from the wedding.

Darren and I gave his parents a variety of things, including a camera bag for his dad and a salad bowl set for his mom. Darren and I received way too many gifts, all of which we are thankful for, including Grey's Anatomy Season One for me!! YEAH!!! I am watching episode 3 already!

When we arrived back home in Belleville, we took a quick tour over to my parents place to see them, as well as my grandparents, Aunt Laura and Brad, Jessie & Michael. Michael is walking (most of the time) and up to lots! He gets around so quickly, but is still occasionally a little unsure about people. Still a cutie though!

We missed the annual pilgrammage to get a Christmas tree on Sunday, but from what I hear, it was a good day to miss it. Mud and all that... A beautiful tree was chosen for us, and it was awaiting us on the deck when we returned. After a two day process, it is beautifully decorated. We actually now have too many ornaments, but they will get cycled on the tree.

I've also been playing with the camera we bought for our wedding gift to each other. I am experimenting with all the possibilities... It's tons of fun!

I even got it to work so that you could see the lights on the basket o' cones my Grandma made for me. They look like they are stars!! YEAH!!

Oh... We also started off the month with some good old Christmas baking with Mom, Anne, Lori and I (and a guest appearance by young Kate-Anne McCaw). It's quite an event every year, making a million (well, 14 or so) varieties of goodies. It's quite an ordeal, but we all survive it. This year, Lori brought along Kate-Anne, who was just over 2 months old at the time. Here's a pic of her in the sling! Cutie!

Well... three more days to survive, and then, it's trying not to eat too much so I don't gain back any of the 45 lbs I've lost since April... Hmm... Wish me luck!

Snacks... Achieved...

Well, Darren and I headed to Watertown (NY) today to buy snacks... yes... snacks... We have been doing Weight Watchers since last April and discovered that the US has a great deal more of the WW products, as well as other portion controlled snacks (100 calorie packs galore!). So, today we headed down and spent $100 US on snacks and other things (bagels, english muffins, etc.). We also hit Applebee's for lunch where again, in the US, they have a WW menu. I had the delicious Cajun Lime Tilapia and Darren had the Confetti Chicken. Mmm....

Mom & Gene invited us over for roast beef (not my favourite, but a nice treat for Darren) along with Brad, Jessie and my nephew Michael. Michael's getting so big and is becoming more comfortable with us. He even let me change his diaper and put his pjs on... That was a big first! He's starting to know how to say Aunt Jenn too, so it's progressing well. We had a mini celebration of Brad's and my birthdays. We even had chocolate cake and we both blew out the candles.

Now, it's time to stay inside and snuggle up with my husband. Baby, it's cold outside.

Today is My Birthday

Well, today is my birthday, and there's not much going on. Tonight Darren and I are going to a Hallowe'en party at our friends' James and Lisa's house. It's a costume party. We have created some good Value Village costumes, so we won't be costume-less, but with a little more time, I'm sure it could have been better. We also went out this morning to buy our pumpkins at Campbell's Orchard this morning. Tomorrow afternoon will be the big carving festivities! Mmm... pumpkin seeds.

This never ending rain is a bit of a drag though... it seems to have rained nearly non-stop for the past two months!! The water levels are getting a little high and I'm glad we live at the top of a hill!

Anyway, 29 years old... Still not quite 30, but getting closer!!
